Toyota: Ta-Ta, Takata

Following some potentially very serious operational issues with Takata airbags, Toyota is following Honda in dropping those products from future use.
At the heart of the problem is the airbag’s inflator, a metal cartridge loaded with propellant wafers, which in some cases has ignited with explosive force. If the inflator housing ruptures in a crash, metal shards from the airbag can be sprayed throughout the passenger cabin—a potentially disastrous outcome from a supposedly life-saving device.
Although Takata had been seen to overcome the initial recall announcement, the fact that two major customers have chosen to source their vehicle airbags elsewhere can't be good news for the company.
